'From Sand, to Glass, then Back to Sand
- Beach Glass Mosaic Mandala'
$2,700.00
Salvaged Beach Glass from BC's Pacific Coast
Made by: Kristi, Bob, Laura, Robyn, and many of our family of friends and artists.
For the last 30 years I have been collecting fragments of surf worn glass from the beaches of the Pacific Coast. This beach glass has been collected on beachcombing excursions with family and friends, from Gordon Head to Sidney, Tofino and the Mainland. As a family we would bring them out in the winter and create temporary designs on the kitchen table, admiring the rare colours and the commonplace; the fire moulded and the sand worn pieces of glass...  and creating stories about their journey and history.  Because my children are at a transitional stage of life now, this seemed the perfect time to come together once more as a family, to create a beach glass Mandala. The history of the glass, the transitory nature of the medium, and the shared venue with Buddhist sand mandalas gave a place to this piece, and to its title: 'From Sand, to Glass, then back to Sand'
