'Peace Mandala II'
Ink, watercolour, resist, metallic inks SOLD
A Meditation for Protection and Peace.
The central motif is the peace dove with its olive branches passing through all of the coloured fabrics in a spiral that threads through a fabric ‘wheel of life’. The patterns include indigo from Japan, Brocade from China, and fabric samples from Vietnam, France, Tibet, Sudan, Palestine, and several others. They have been joined together to create one peaceful globe. The outer protective square has been lined with Hamsa symbols, fashioned after a silver one I wear on occasion. The Hamsa is a protective amulet found in Africa, Egypt, and the Middle East but it is believed to originate from one ancient religion. Those who actively support a peaceful resolution to the ongoing middle east conflict believe that wearing the hamsa hand highlights the similarities of the origins of all religions. The sentiment of the mandala is a shift towards finding parallels rather than differences. The filigree amulets were created to look like traditional silver patterns of the middle east.

Hamsa prayer
Let no sadness come through this gate,
Let no trouble come to these walls,
Let no conflict be in this place,
Let this home be filled with the blessing of joy and peace.
