The artwork of Métis women plays a crucial role in preserving our culture, with creations of household items, regalia, and even dog tapis. A vivid memory is of my ancestors describing the ornate, beaded gauntlets and leather chaps they wore. The strength and artistry of these resilient Métis women inspire this piece, honouring Indigenous grandmothers as revered leaders. The artwork features four matriarch gauntlets holding up a Métis flower beadwork medicine bag. The Métis-style crewelwork, and glass beadwork designs were inspired by family heirlooms crafted by our Cree-Métis ancestors. Flowers and colours are placed in the four quadrants of the medicine wheel.
