kihciķamî apô (Ocean home)
by Kristi Bridgeman
This painting features a female Southern Resident Orca, ‘Tahlequah’, Chinook salmon, and other favourite native species. The red circle symbolizes a ribbon used to gift Métis elders. This third piece in the red ribbon series honors the natural world with the red ribbon, and invites viewers to reflect on humanity's connection with ecosystems. It illustrates interdependence, reminding us that preserving nature is both an ecological duty and cultural responsibility, integral to our identity, heritage, and future generations.
