MOCCASIN ROCKS
The artist has been painting rocks for her grandkids to hide
during beach walks and hikes, as gifts for others to find.
The mini moccasin rocks were so tiny and dear,
her Grandson agreed that they remind us of the children lost.
The topic takes on deep connection because the artists ancestors attended residential school.
Kristi now offers the little rocks for purchase at various local events.
All proceeds donated to Residential School Survivors.

Indigenous People’s Experience at Fort Edmonton Park-  amiskwacîwâskahikan -which is in Treaty Six, is now open.

During such a difficult time and with so many people grieving across the land, this space is significant to give voice and visibility to FNMI people. Many artists and artisans work is displayed there, and true stories are told in the voice of the people. This space will educate and inform, with tens of thousands of visitors and school groups going through it each year.

The Metis cabin also features Lisa and Kristi's  collaborative works. Their families, (the Campions, Chalifouxs, Donalds, L’Hirondelles, Norris, Gladues and Dumonts) were there on the land along with so many other Métis families at the very beginning of the formation of the province.

Breathe: Creating resilience through traditional art

Through hardship, we turn to art; through challenge, we turn to tradition. Discover resilience and humanity amid a 21st-century pandemic in this exhibition of hand-crafted masks by artists from around the world.
The masks of Breathe share their makers’ unique stories of fear, courage, sadness, hope, love, and healing that unite us all. Each mask was crafted through diverse mediums including beadwork, embroidery, birch bark etching, quill work, quilting, rug hooking, metalwork, and glass fusion.
My tiny (newborn sized) embroidered mask contribution is included in the exhibit.

Detail, Meadow Camas, Garry Oak Ecosystem, Saanich Field Guide,
New 2021 Saanich, BC, Saanich Parks Field Guide
Saanich Parks released a beautiful new field guide to inspire a passion for nature discoveries in parks close to home. This illustrated field guide highlights some of the plants and animals found in Saanich parks and the different types of ecosystems where they live. It is a visual learning tool aimed at youth, but the intent is to encourage learning and enjoyment for all park visitors.
“We hope our new guide will enhance the experience of our park visitors and encourage them to be curious about their natural surroundings,” said Manager Community Development and Business Systems Nathalie Dechaine. “The guide is part of our Natural Intelligence initiative that aims to improve citizens’ knowledge about our natural world and how we connect with it. In deepening that connection with nature, we tend to be happier, healthier and motivated to protect it. ”
The field guide was developed to have the look and feel of an artist’s nature notes highlighting some of the plants and animals that live in our local ecosystems. Illustrated to capture the spirit and beauty of the unique nature that exists around us. Saanich Parks will develop resources for families and educators to use with the field guide so they can broaden their learning while experiencing these lovely places. Saanich parks provide vital habitat for plants and animals. Please help us protect these special places by treading carefully, taking only memories and leaving nothing but footprints.
The field guide is available at  Saanich-Plants-Animals-Field-Guide.pdf

Over a dozen artists delve into the multiple significances held by cut flowers, ornamental
gardens and wild plants to reveal how flowers act as surrogates for all kinds of ideas. Drawing on the personal, the political and the cultural meanings of flowers, the artworks in the exhibition go beyond notions of beauty to take an unexpected look at this familiar floral subject matter.
