"Magnolia Gate Mandala"
by Kristi Bridgeman
Kristi created her first mandala in 1987 after becoming inspired by beautiful illuminated mandalas found in books like Mandala Symbolism. She began visiting gallery exhibits of the works of Jack Wise, and Buddhist Monk sand paintings and butter carvings.
The artist begins with a general idea or a central motif such as harmony, peace, symbiosis, synchronicity, and reincarnation. Once a basic idea is laid down, the meditative and intuitive take over, where one could easily lose hours at the work table.
There is a healing/meditative response to creating the pattern, laying down the colours and shapes… perhaps the creative relationship with basic human archetypes can be communicated through art to human perception.
