The inspiration for this piece is the legend of Shangri-La - the search for Shangri-La being a lifelong quest for an earthly utopia. The Anna’s Hummingbird, with its jewel-like colouring, is one example of the endemic flora and fauna of our Garry Oak meadows and coastal rainforests. Our earthly paradise, a delicate interwoven filigree beset with truest of jewels. Sepia and metallic ink, watercolour, wax resist, gold leaf.
