The inspiration for this piece is the legend of Shangri-La - the search for Shangri-La being a lifelong quest for an earthly utopia. The Ruby Crowned Kinglet is one of our tiniest birds. With its bright red crest, white eye ring and lovely song, it is a small example of the endemic flora and fauna of our Garry Oak meadows and coastal rainforests. Our earthly paradise, a delicate interwoven filigree beset with truest of jewels. Sepia and metallic ink, watercolour, wax resist, gold leaf.
