Salal is a highly utilized native plant, prized for use as a medicine, food, and dye. The salal is a lovely leathery resilient species from the coastal forest understory. This identification piece shows the plant at various stages, from the delicate pink of the new stems and tiny pink and white flowers, to juicy blue-black berries.
